The purpose of this position is to support GEOS-NA’s breeding program for seed production. The position will ensure proper growing protocols are established and followed to produce quality seed used in parent line and hybrid development. Additionally, this position will work collaboratively with plant breeders to develop strategies for improved processes and assured supply for breeding successes.Principal Accountabilities80% Plant Breeding/Management: Execute breeding strategies to ensure timelines are met to support the plant breeding program. Requires adherence to legal/stewardship agreements, quality parameters, and monitoring of plant growth to ensure purity standards are met. This position will execute on crossing blocks, perform phenotypic evaluations, collect data, increase seed and develop germplasm, and assist with all processes of plant growth from planting to harvest/seed prep.10% Lab Technical Support: Responsible for routine lab duties. Includes sample preparation, handling, documentation, and analysis. Ability to plan, execute, and report (independently and in collaboration with team members) experiments, results, and conclusions.5% Leadership: Responsible for coordinating with cross functional teams as a flexible team members to ensure project success. Communicate with team and supervisor on support needs and provide updates on project status to meet deadlines. Participation in public speaking for customer visits and at facility meetings.5% Innovation: Work with team members to plan and carry out research studies on improved methods for plant growth and lab techniques.QualificationsMinimum Required Qualifications

High School graduate with a minimum of 2 years greenhouse or field research experience in an agricultural setting.

Demonstrated commitment to safety.

Ability to lift 40lbs.

Must be able to work long hours in a greenhouse environment sitting or standing and where high temperatures may occur. This work also involves exposure to allergens, including pollen and dust.

Documented ability to handle multiple projects to meet assigned deadlines, independently and in collaboration with others.

Ability to adapt to change, delays, or unexpected events.

Experience in managing plant health in a greenhouse or growth chamber setting. Familiar with basic greenhouse environment to influence / optimize plant growth.

Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.

Ability to work weekends as needed.

Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor of Science in Horticulture, Biology or a related field.

4 years greenhouse or field research experiencein an agricultural setting.

Previous experience in a plant breeding setting where purity standards are applied.

Experience with Integrated Pest Management methods.

Private Pesticide Applicators License.

Familiar with lab techniques.

Awareness of plant genetics, genomics, and genetic marker technologies

Database management or expanded computer skills.
