SummaryIncumbent will serve as a Computer Scientist in the Communications Technology Laboratory at NIST in Boulder, COAre you ready to explore your future with NIST? This notice is issued under direct-hire authority to recruit new talent to occupations for which NIST has a severe shortage of candidates.ResponsibilitiesData scientist for spectrum-sharing projects administered by the National Advanced Spectrum and Communications Test Network (NASCTN). Develop and improve software implementing advanced machine learning algorithms and statistical models for the analysis of large and complex data sets. Provide support in data processing, data visualization, and data analysis for measurement projects in wireless communications and spectrum sharing. Develop and maintain data processing software and databases for NASCTN projects. Develop data visualization and data analysis tools for NASCTN projects. Collaborate with research teams on research for machine learning and other methods with applications to metrology for wireless communication systems. Communicate results via reports, publications, and presentations. Consult and participate in the execution of complex spectrum sharing and interference tests critical to the NIST mission and CTL priorities (e.g. NASCTN).RequirementsConditions of EmploymentYou must be a U.S. citizenYou must be registered for Selective Service if applicable (www.sss.gov)You must be suitable for Federal EmploymentYou must be able to pass a drug testApplicants must meet requirements by the closing date of this announcement.QualificationsBasic Requirements:Bachelor's degree in computer science or bachelor's degree with 30 semester hours in a combination of mathematics, statistics, and computer science. At least 15 of the 30 semester hours must have included any combination of statistics and mathematics that included differential and integral calculus. All academic degrees and course work must be from accredited or pre-accredited institutions.In addition to the above basic requirements:Applicants must have 1 year (52 weeks) of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS 9 (ZP II at NIST) level. Specialized experience is defined asdemonstrated expertise in Python programming, software engineering, databases, data visualization, data analysis, and machine learning. Experience implementing advanced deep learning algorithms.ORMaster's or equivalent graduate degree.ORCombination of education and experience. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
