Job Description

This role works out of our Headquarters in Redwood City, CA.

Due to the Covid 19 Pandemic Guardant Health has temporarily classified this role as ‘working from home status’, scheduled to return onsite at HQ when it is determined safe to do so.

At Guardant Health, we are committed to positively and significantly improving patient health with technology breakthroughs that address long-standing unmet needs in oncology. As the leader in the field of liquid biopsy, Guardant Health has collected cancer genomic data from over 100,000 patients. We are using bioinformatics and machine learning techniques to extract signals from these data and are developing a liquid biopsy assay to detect early-stage cancer. We are looking for a bioinformatics scientist to join us in this endeavor. The successful candidate will work at the forefront of research and technological development within the interdisciplinary LUNAR team and will make core contributions to evolving products designed to haveclinical impact on patients.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Design, prototype, and analyze the performance of novel statistical models
  • Explore and characterize signals relevant to early cancer detection from large-scale genomic and epigenomic NGS data
  • Collaborate with Technology Development scientists on designing experiments to assess and improve assay performance
  • Participate in brainstorming sessions and collaborative efforts within a highly interactive work environment
  • Communicate analysis results to stakeholders across computational and experimental teams
  • Develop reproducible analyses for research and development activities
  • Provide written documentation and specifications

ABOUT YOU

  • Dedicated to making a difference in a rapid-paced startup environment
  • Ph.D. in computational biology, bioinformatics, genomics, statistics, computer science, machine learning, or related fields
  • 3+ Year Industry Experience
  • Strong background in statistical fundamentals and analysis, including Bayesian probability, iterative model development, and hypothesis testing
  • Experience developing and implementing novel methods, and going beyond packaged algorithms
  • Experience with analysis of genomic and/or epigenomic NGS data
  • Ability to design and execute analyses in an open-ended, data-limited setting
  • Experience visualizing complex experiments to derive biological insights
  • Strong ability with a high-level scripting language (e.g., Python, R)

PREFERRED

  • Background in immunology and/or cancer biology
  • Experience analyzing external genomic/epigenomic datasets (e.g. TCGA, ENCODE)
  • Familiarity with high-performance computing infrastructures (e.g., SGE, Spark)
  • Experience leveraging AWS-based services (e.g., EC2, S3) to speed analyses

Employee may be required to lift routine office supplies and use office equipment. Majority of the work is performed in a desk/office environment; however, there may be exposure to high noise levels, fumes, and biohazard material in the laboratory environment. Ability to sit for extended periods of time.
