Job Description

We are seeking a full-time Laboratory Supervisor to become part of a fast growing, innovative Inorganic Chemistry Department. The Laboratory Supervisor will lead a team of top-notch, like-minded individuals who embrace and share in the same vision, core values and integrity of the science. This is a full-time, benefited position with competitive salary, commensurate with experience. The ideal candidate must be available to work Monday through Friday, 8am – 5pm and after hours, including some weekends. The Laboratory Manager oversees all aspects of the laboratory, including personnel and day-to-day operations.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Plan, prioritize, assign, supervise, review and participate in the work of staff responsible for performing testing appropriate to the department.
  • Establish schedules and methods for providing laboratory analysis and all necessary quality controls to ensure accuracy and precision; oversee the development, modification and validation of new methods; identify resource needs; review needs with appropriate management staff; allocate resources accordingly.
  • Coordinate equipment maintenance to ensure proper equipment function and reliable, accurate data generation.
  • Recommend and assist in the implementation of goals and objectives; implement approved policies and procedures, including company health, safety, and personnel policies.
  • Satisfy customer requests for information, including sample collection and submission guidance, report interpretation, and suggestions of other vendors for services we do not offer.
  • Oversee the technical soundness of work performed by the department staff. Review data and reports for accuracy, content and adherence to quality assurance policies.
  • Meet requirements for client service performed by the department - including consultation with clients, data interpretation, and coordination of support with the Sample Custodian.
  • Provide technical guidance to the staff; this includes guidance regarding techniques, problem solving, methodologies and quality control.
  • Review data and reports for accuracy, content and adherence to Forensic quality control policies.
  • Assist in the screening and interviewing process for departmental staff.
  • Participate in professional development activities (i.e. publication of papers, active participation in appropriate organizations, attending classes and seminars, etc.).
  • Consult with Laboratory Operations Manager and QA Manager to ensure all applicable policies and procedures.

Qualifications

Qualifications/ Skills:

  • 5+ years in laboratory experience
  • 2+ years of laboratory supervisor/ management experience
  • 5+ years of experience in a NELAC or ISO 17025 certified laboratory
  • 2 + years ICP (either OES or MS) highly preferred
  • Experience with IC, Flame-AA, CVAA and FTIR
  • Strong leadership qualities and effective organizational skills
  • Proven technical competency
  • Good communication skills, both verbal and written problem-solving skills
