Lab Manager for new cannabis testing lab (Grover Beach)

Confidence Analytics is an industry leader in the field of cannabis quality assurance testing. We are a full-service chemical analytical and microbiology laboratory serving the regulated cannabis marketplace in Washington state and are expanding our operations to California in 2020. To support our growth, Confidence Analytics is seeking a Laboratory Manager for their new lab in Grover Beach, CA (San Luis Obispo area).

Position Summary

The Laboratory Manager will be responsible for the overall day-to-day operation of the laboratory and continuous process improvements. Because this is a new, start-up laboratory, the Lab Manager is expected to be very “hands-on” with testing during the first year. As a start up, this position presents exceptional opportunities for professional development and career growth for the right candidate. This is not an entry level position; experience requirements are outlined below.

Initial training will take place at the Redmond, WA laboratory and will last 2-3 weeks.

Key Responsibilities

- Compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations

- Oversight of analytical testing procedures and personnel

- Training, management, and scheduling of Laboratory Analysts

- Understanding and ability to perform all test methods

- Continuous improvement of laboratory processes and methods

- Organization of all documentation

- Communication with Executive and Management teams in the Washington Lab

- Instrument maintenance (service, PMs, calibration) and troubleshooting

- Review daily and monthly logs

- Maintenance of laboratory supply inventory

- Answering questions and discussion of results with clients

- Adhere to all SOPs

- Maintain all QA/AC requirements and documentation

- Adhere to safety and sanitation standards

- Ensure the laboratory operates smoothly and consistently

- Ensure that data quality meets required standards

- Ensure all samples are processed in a timely manner

- Other duties as required.

Skills, Traits, and Qualifications

- BA/BS in a scientific field, MS preferred

- Minimum of three (3) years of laboratory experience

- Minimum of two (2) years experience with chromatography and/or mass spec method development and instrument maintenance/troubleshooting

- Minimum of one (1) year in a supervisory/leadership role

- Strong leadership skills

- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with external clients and across all levels of employees

- Familiarity with experimental design, method development/validation, data analysis, and writing reports

- Experience with routine analysis operations and QA/QC compliance and best practices

- Experience and familiarity with laboratory accreditation/quality programs and audits, preferably ISO

- 40 hour Cal/OSHA 40 safety training certificate (or willingness to obtain certificate within first 60 days)

- Previous experience in cannabis testing desired

- Professional demeanor and ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality.

- Ability to sit or stand for long periods of time.

- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds

- This position will require occasional travel to the Redmond, WA lab

- Per California law, must be at least 21 years of age

Availability

This is a full-time position requiring a commitment of 40 hours per week. Occasional overtime may be required.

A conditional job offer, contingent on a criminal history background check, will be made to the successful candidate in accordance with California state law.
