NOTE: Position will become full-time as business requirements grow.

NOTE: Open to both Contract and Direct Hire.

NOTE: This is an on-site position and is not open to remote work.

SUMMARY

The Part-Time NPI Buyer is responsible for all aspects of material buying in support of new product development across multiple and complex customer requirements. Owns all aspects of the quote to payment cycle. Works within existing systems and pending new ERP, leveraging tools to drive improvement of supplier performance, process, materials and change management. Partners with Sales, Engineering, Finance and Production, providing sales quotation support through final hand-off to production.

This role will develop new product introduction procedures and processes to facilitate NPI transition to Production. A key player on the Production team, this role will contribute to the ongoing development and continuous improvement of our products through selection of best suppliers and material choices.

This position starts as part-time, partners with NPI Engineer, and reports to the VP, Operations based in San Jose, CA.

OVERVIEW OF DUTIES

· Subject Matter Expert in NPI Procurement

· Ensure all approvals are secured and documented, in compliance with company policy.

· Issue, review, administer, and monitor purchase orders and delivery commitments to designated suppliers to support Sales and Engineering requirements.

· Organize and manage multiple projects, while tracking and solving supplier issues, developing options to implement long-term solutions for identified problems.

· Coordinate engineering change order activity with suppliers and project teams.

· Research and implement best practices to identify a core supply base able to offer lowest total cost of ownership, high quality product, with on-time delivery performance.

· Work with finance and engineering to capture ideas that will yield key COGS reduction activities.

· Create, negotiate, and manage commercial agreements, covering cost, quality, and delivery terms,

· Optimize documentation and communication to allow successful supply chain transfer at release to product tollgate.

· Ability to execute high quality, fast decision making under limited formal processes

· Part of a customer centric model, partners with engineers to optimize supply chain for NPI and Production workflows

· Communicate schedules immediately to stakeholders and resolve shortages within the shortest timeline available.

· Collaborate with engineers in various phases of the NPI process to understand their unique expectations of Procurement-supplier interaction

· Improve predictability of supplier execution on shipments.

· Manage quotations to improve supplier quote turn-around time.

· Integrate a new model for Procurement support of new products.

· Own and lead supplier meetings to accelerate project schedule and improve cost

· Ensure timely delivery of key components for manufacturing pilot run and mass production dates

· Ensure customer requirements are understood

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

· BS degree in Supply Chain Management, Engineering, Business or related field, or equivalent,

· 3+ years’ purchasing experience in a small electrical manufacturing company, with at least three (1) years’ experience in New Product Introduction

· Affinity towards recognizing technical details to optimize material properties and product manufacturability

· A proven track record of effective supplier program management in a fast-paced small manufacturing company.

· Strong critical thinking skills and ability to navigate in situations with limited process constraints.

· A collaborative and approachable interpersonal style, with the ability to nurture key relationships and achieve consensus among internal stakeholders

· Strong organizational skills with high accountability and multi-tasking experience.

· A strong self-starter who thrives in a dynamic environment of a small manufacturing operation.

· Excellent negotiation skills with a proven track record of supplier cost savings.

· Experience using an ERP and above average Excel skills.

· Must demonstrate excellent problem-solving and decision-making skills.

· Ability to organize and prioritize work to meet deadlines

PLUS

· 5+ years experience as an NPI Buyer with a small manufacturing company.

· Proficiency using Strong Data Analytics with expert Excel skills.

· Knowledgeable of Manufacturing Resource Planning (MRPII)/Master Production Schedule (MPS) process and Distribution Requirements Planning (DRP) process

SAFETY REQUIREMENT

· Lift and move objects weighing up to 20 pounds according to safe lifting guidelines.
