Annual Salary: $114,084-$140,625 (DOE/DOQ)

The negotiable salary range is base salary. The top of the range for salary advancement, is $167,167.

The Auditor-Controller’s Office seeks a Division Chief to oversee payroll processes Countywide. This position will manage five technically savvy payroll staff, including a payroll supervisor who ensures that payroll is processed for 4,893 staff members, including extra help. This Chief also serves as a proactive business partner to 26 departments to ensure the department is meeting their business needs, and as part of the Executive Team, contributes to executive decision making for the department while fostering a culture of continuous improvement and staff development. Our ideal candidate will have a background overseeing and leading teams and a strong understanding of complex payroll processes and systems, ideally within a public sector organization. The ideal candidate will be an adept problem solver with a high level of emotional intelligence and demonstrate calm under pressure. Ideally, this Chief should have a strong understanding of payroll regulations, laws, guidelines and rules. With the County considering a change in their payroll system, the incumbent should have knowledge of different ERP platforms, payroll modules, and have experience contributing to, or overseeing similar organizational change projects. This Division Chief will be enthusiastic and have a mindset focused on finding better ways to get things done, while demonstrating excellence in relationship building, collaboration and leadership.Employment Standards: A bachelor’s degree in accounting, business administration, human resources, or other related field;Considerable years of experience to effectively perform the duties and responsibilities outlined in this recruitment announcement;Progressively responsible professional, operational, and leadership experience;A combination of training, education, and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities;Possession of a valid California Class C Driver’s License upon hire. Desired: Possession of one of the following: Certified Payroll Professional (CPP), Certified Public Accountant (CPA), and/or Professional in Human Resources/Senior Professional in Human Resources (PHR/SPHR).
