Applied Materials’ Mechatronics Team is looking for a Controls Engineer to develop advanced control solutions for high-performance wafer handling robots. You will design and code real time control algorithms. We have an established legacy and an experienced team of multi-disciplinary, world-class professionals working in a highly collaborative atmosphere. You will play a key role in the development of Applied Materials’ next-generation control solutions to enable higher precision, throughput, and coordination.Key Responsibilities:
Design and implement real-time control algorithms for high-rate, fast motion systems
Create dynamic models of mechanical systems
Conduct experiments to evaluate control performance and robustness
Debug embedded hardware and software problems
Create highly reliable, maintainable, and testable codebases
Collaborate with mechanical, electrical, software, and process engineers to execute design objectives
Qualifications:
Passion for coding and hands-on development
Proficiency with linear and non-linear feedback control implementation on real-world systems
Proficiency with modeling and simulating control systems
Proficiency with Matlab, Python or other script language
Collaborates well in cross-functional teams
MS or PHD in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Aeronautical Engineering, or related discipline
Bonus skills:
Experience with SCARA, 4, 5 & 6 axis robot arm kinematics, dynamics, and control
Experience with CANopen and EtherCAT
Experience with C or other object-oriented language
Experience in semiconductor industry
3+ years of experience shipping new product to a demanding customer base
