Postdoctoral Scholar-Research AssociateApplyPullias CenterLos Angeles, CaliforniaThe University of Southern California’s Pullias Center for Higher Education is seeking a postdoctoral scholar to work on a mixed methods evaluation study that examines theThompson Scholars Learning Community Programsat three University of Nebraska campuses. The postdoctoral scholar will collaborate with faculty, and graduate students. We are particularly interested in applications from candidates with experience in mixed methods research, advanced quantitative skills, qualitative methods, studying educational interventions, an understanding of learning communities, and success factors and transition factors for first generation and low-income students.Project activities will involve data analysis, regularly attending planning and project meetings, and writing up results for both practitioner and research venues. The study research design includes a five-year survey, a summative evaluation in conjunction with a randomized control trial being already conducted on the program, case studies, digital diaries, social media analysis, and focus groups.Ideal candidates will:

Have experience conducting rigorous, high quality and meaningful research;

Advanced quantitative skills (e.g., structural equation modeling, confirmatory factor analyses, etc.) and qualitative skills;

Work with a complex team across multiple sites and states;

Publish academic articles related to the project; and

Translate research findings into materials useful for practitioner audiences

The mission of the Pullias Center for Higher Education is to bring a multidisciplinary perspective to complex social, political, and economic issues in higher education. Our work is devoted to the key issues of college access, retention, and accountability for underserved students—and the effectiveness of the colleges and universities that serve them. Both directly and through our research, we engage with institutional leaders, policymakers and the community at large to address the major challenges in educational equity today. Located within the University of Southern California Rossier School of Education since 1995, we seek individuals who are not only interested in conducting rigorous research but also intent on having their research translated in a way that enables multiple constituencies (e.g. policy-makers, administrators and teachers, parents and students) to make use of research findings.Review of applications will start as soon as possible, and the postdoctoral position will begin in June 2020. It is a temporary, fixed-term, one-year position. The candidate should have a PhD by the time of employment.
