ASRC Federal Space and Defense is seeking a highly motivated Mechanical/Electrical Technician to support our ongoing activities at the Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) located at Edwards Air Force Base, CA.Description:This mechanical and electrical support covers a wide area of work. From maintaining a low voltage weather tower system to performing preventative maintenance on life saving equipment. We are supporting cutting edge propulsion systems testing at the AFRL and we are looking for a highly skilled Electrical/Mechanical Technician to be a part of this research and part of the ASRC Federal family.Responsibilities:

Perform monthly inspections on vital, life saving equipment.

Maintain the cleanliness of a large warehouse with HazMat and Confined Space Rescue Response trailers and equipment storage.

Low voltage system knowledge for the communication of weather towers in the field to their mother tower.

Perform monthly checks on communication headsets and ensure they are working.

Perform Breathing Air Compressor and system maintenance.

Serve as a team member on the AFRL Hazardous Response and Recovery Team.

Must be able to wear a respirator.

Will be required to learn how to operate the Site Operations Control Center (SOCC)

May be required to fill Breathing Air Bottles.

Occasional work - Install, troubleshoot and repair motors, lighting and plug circuits, electrical control equipment, transformers, wiring, conduit and switch/circuit breaker equipment, fixtures and ballasts, and other types of electrical and power systems up to 480vac 3 phase.

Work from plans, sketches, blueprints, work orders or other instructions; interpret electrical plans and specifications; check for compliance with codes.

Estimate cost of labor and materials for projects or work orders; requisition parts or supplies as needed.

Clean, test, troubleshoot and repair high voltage equipment as necessary up to 480v 3phase.

Able to drive a vehicle and drive a vehicle to and from suppliers.

Perform related duties as assigned.

Maintain punctual and consistent attendance.

Requirements:

Indoor and outdoor work environments; working at heights; working around and with machinery having moving parts; working with electrical power supplies and high voltage.

Attention to detail in performing inventory and monitoring calibration dates for life-saving equipment.

Dexterity of hands and fingers to dismantle and repair electrical systems or components, and to operate hand and power tools; bending at the waist, kneeling, crouching, or reaching above the head to store or retrieve materials; hearing and speaking to exchange information; seeing to perform skilled work; climbing stairs or ladders, using lifts; lifting and carrying equipment or materials.

Trade tools, equipment, materials, methods and techniques used in skilled electrician work; working knowledge of safety practices, and National Electric Codes.

Single and poly-phase motors.

Operate power tools, meters, generators, and diagnostic equipment.

Work cooperatively and collaboratively with, co-workers, engineers and other professionals when needed; work independently with limited direct supervision.

Maintain simple and concise records and prepare accurate reports.

Operate a computer and proprietary or mass market software such as MS Office.

Education/Experience:

High School Graduate and five to seven (5-7) years of related experience.

Clearance:

Ability to obtain and maintain a DOD Secret Clearance
