The Fort Smith Children's Emergency Shelter is seeking applicants for the position of Public Relations Coordinator. This is an entry-level position. The successful candidate will be self-motivated, outgoing, well-spoken, very comfortable with public speaking, and recently-graduated with a degree in marketing, public relations, journalism and/or communications.

Summary:

The Childrens Emergency Shelter Public Relations Coordinator will further the mission of the Childrens Emergency Shelter by performing marketing and public relations duties, and providing support for CESF fund development efforts. The position is responsible for developing and implementing a communications and public relations plan that includes online activities, media relations, and community/volunteer engagement.

Duties:

Create and implement a public relations and marketing plan that promotes the mission of the CES and GR24 programs. This includes printed and online materials, data-driven reports for the CES website and social media outlets including but not limited to Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter.

Collaborate with Director of Development on writing press releases, scheduling interviews and advertising with media outlets, and uploading events to community calendars

Ensure marketing materials are readily available for CES events, community engagement events, visitors, and speaking events

In collaboration with the Director of Development, write blogs, e-newsletters, and annual report

Check newspaper and online sources for stories worthy to our mission, stories on current donors, and information on potential new donors

Participate in CES community engagement events

Participate in CES fundraising events

Collaborate with Get REAL 24 Program Coordinator on public relations needs in recruiting Mentor and Sponsor families.

Serve as the primary point of contact for all volunteer management, including coordinating background checks and other vetting processes for all volunteers; and assisting in coordinating volunteer activities and outings with direct care staff when necessary

Qualifications:

Must have strong computer skills and be proficient in Microsoft Office, including Word, Publisher, PowerPoint; and Adobe Creative Cloud programs including InDesign

Must have strong oral and written communication skills

Must be proactive and able to multitask

Must be able to work with a team, including interns

Must have a 4-year degree in marketing, public relations, journalism, and/or communications
