POSITION DESCRIPTION

Job Title: Coaxial and Fiber Splicers

Reports To: Foreman and / or Superintendent

SUMMARY OF POSITION:

To carry out fiber and / or coaxial cable splicing work on telecommunication infrastructure. The work requires skill and experience in cable splicing in a safe and efficient manner to ensure crew safety and a high quality installation.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:(Based upon level of position, not all functions may apply)

o Read and interpret work orders, specifications, engineering drawings and / or cut sheets to determine work to be done in sequence of task

o Perform physical construction work such as digging holes, climbing telephone poles, placing and removing poles and anchors, pulling and stringing wire/cable from pole to pole, laying cable and conduit in the ground

o Carry out work in conformance with all applicable codes, regulations, and customer specifications

o Splice cable and work with customer operations divisions to ensure all installation is completed in accordance with customer procedure

o Close out work orders by completing production sheets, verifying installed dimensions and completing close-out checklists and other customer required document deliverables

o Ensure that all work performed considers the safety of all relevant parties, and

o Other duties as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:(Based upon level of position, not all may apply)

o High School Diploma or GED preferred

o Must be reliable and able to work in a team environment

o Excellent reading skills to understand and comprehend all construction warning signs

o Ability to manage documentation electronically is desirable

o Retain a valid drivers license

o Required to pass a pre-employment drug test and subsequent random drug tests, and

o Great attention and commitment to safety culture and company values.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

The position lifts heavy objects, walks and stands for long periods of time and perform strenuous physical labor under adverse field conditions. Will be lifting, pushing, pulling or carries heavy objects; using abdominal and lower back muscles to provide support. Must have good manual dexterity, hand-eye coordination and balance. The employee is occasionally exposed to a variety of extreme conditions at construction job sites. The noise level in the work environment and job sites can be loud. Working hours are typically 5 days per week and 8 hours per day but from time to time may require 6 days per week and / or extended hours.
