Job Summary:
The Fuel Distribution Helper assists one or more workers in the skilled maintenance or operator positions by performing specific or general duties of lesser skill nature.
Primary Duties:
Cleaning working areas, machines and equipment
Assisting licensed/certified operators in day to day operations and preventative maintenance
Supply, lift, or hold materials and tools
Helper may occasionally be allowed to operate or perform specialized machine operations, or minor tasks of a trade, that are performed by certified operators on a full-time basis
Helper may occasionally assist in performing plant inspections with certified operators
Helps certified operators in fuel transfers to and from vessels, including handling lines for ships, connecting hoses and safety lines, operating flow control valves, and recording operational data related to the transfers
Helps certified operators inspect fuel receiving, storage and distribution facilities to detect and correct leakage, corrosion, faulty fittings and malfunction of mechanical units, and gauges
Assists certified operators in inspecting electrical wiring, switches and controls for safe operating condition, grounding and adjustment
Assists certified operators lubricate and repack valves; lubricate pumps; replace gaskets; clean strainers and filters; services water separators
Assists certified operators remove and install equipment such as filters
Assists operators test fuels, conduct daily soundings and temperature readings of fuel storage tanks.
Assists operators complete all paperwork associated with position in accordance with prescribed policies and procedures
Performs housekeeping, brush control and grounds keeping duties and corrosion control painting
Performs duties occasionally after hours and weekends to perform ship fueling and fuel barge off-loads.

Education, Experience, Skills:
High school education or G.E.D equivalent
Valid Driver’s License
Must be able to clearly communicate by radio and phone
Must be qualified to wear a respirator IAW 29 CFR 1910.134
Valid Alaska Class B Commercial Driver’s License with a Tanker/HAZMAT Endorsement. Must have Alaska Class B Commercial Driver’s License completed within 6 months of accepting this position and Tanker/HAZMAT Endorsement completed within 9 months
Must maintain HAZWOPER certification IAW 29 CFR 1910.120, completed within 6 months of accepting the position
Certified in Confined space (Entry, Attendant and Supervisor), completed within 6 months of accepting the position
Familiarity with operating forklifts, small boats, and boom trucks
Knowledgeable and competent to operate hand tools and power tools
Preferred:
State of Alaska Painters Card (Recommended but not required)
Fuel Operations experience
Marine Terminal and dockside operations experience
Mechanical repair experience and mechanical aptitude
Experience in a like role
Ability to participate as spill response team member

Essential and marginal functions may require maintaining physical condition necessary for bending, stooping, sitting, walking or standing for prolonged periods of time; carry materials and tools to work site up to 50lbs regularly and 51+ occasionally by team lifting. This position requires manual dexterity enough to use hand tools. Must be able to work in tight/confined spaces and be familiar with proper personal protective equipment

This position requires the ability to maneuver around maintenance sites, see, hear, and verbally communicate with co-workers and clients. Ability to perform manual labor under dirty and uncomfortable situations and in all types of weather. Work in inclement weather environments for extend periods. May be required to be on call on a rotational basis as directed. Travel to remote sites may be required.
Supervisory Responsibility
This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
