JOB DESCRIPTION: Suicide Prevention Program Coordinator (SPPC)
REPORTS TO: NAMI Juneau Executive Director
STATUS: Full time, Exempt
SALARY: $57,000 - $62,500
BENEFITS: Paid time off, retirement contribution. NAMI Juneau does not offer health insurance.

The Juneau Suicide Prevention Coalition (JSPC) provides an array of suicide prevention efforts in Juneau, including regular trainings, public outreach and advocacy, school-based primary prevention and postvention services. The JSPC is a program under NAMI Juneau, a local affiliate of the National Alliance on Mental Illness. The SPPC is a dynamic and core leadership position who acts as the primary face of the coalition. This role is best served by someone who is positive, growth-oriented and engaging while acting as a leader in the community. The SPPC will energize volunteers and staff to carry out our mission, values and implement coalition goals.
NAMI Juneau and JSPC rely on grant funds. The SPPC position is subject to the continued availability of grants or the development of new funding streams.
Representative Tasks/Responsibilities
Training and Outreach
Plan outreach campaigns and events that reduce stigma, promote hope, share resources and utilize safe messaging principles.
Become a certified trainer in various suicide prevention and postvention trainings (ex. QPR, ASIST, Mental Health First Aid, NAMI Connect Postvention).
Partner with new and existing community sectors and agencies (ex. schools, nonprofits, businesses, veterans, primary care clinics), to develop and strengthen partnerships.
Coordinate and provide flexible, responsive and high value suicide prevention, means reduction, postvention and Adverse Childhood Experience trainings with selected groups (ex. schools, nonprofits, businesses, veterans, primary care clinics).
Create and deliver a range of resources, in alignment with our messages and with coalition partner support, that respond to the current needs of our community.
Recruit and develop a volunteer membership base whose demographics reflect those of the community. Volunteers should be engaged in meaningful ways to participate in all facets of coalition activity, including training, outreach and planning coalition work.
Consistently model and support coalition values and respect for all people.
School-based Responsibilities
● Supervise Youth Outreach Coordinator to ensure implementation of Signs of Suicide and Sources of Strength.
● Partner with the University of Alaska Southeast on prevention efforts including Campus Kickoff and Power and Privilege Symposium.
Postvention
● Support Postvention activities, including convening Postvention Response Team and outreach to affected individuals and news outlets.
Administrative Responsibilities
● Attend meetings and provide support to volunteer chairs of the coalition and all subcommittees.
● Help prioritize and plan JSPC efforts across a timeline to ensure intentional and realistic actualization of efforts.
● Attend and participate in JSPC Steering Committee meetings.
● Provide growth-oriented supervision and guidance to foster excellent communication, problem solving and follow through to employees and volunteers.
● Work with the Executive Director on grant applications and reporting.
● Ability to travel for professional development, conferences and training on behalf of JSPC.
● Other duties as assigned.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Respected member of the Juneau community.
Outstanding interpersonal skills with the ability to form and maintain relationships and to resolve conflicts and misunderstandings.
Strong project management skills, ability to independently track both big picture and details while working dynamically between the two frames.
Excellent written and oral communication skills, including public speaking.
Experience with grant writing and reporting.
Exceptional organizational skills including multi-tasking, planning and meeting deadlines.
Experience working in the prevention field.
Experience in providing successful supervision.
Clinical background or education, such as social work or professional counselor.
Requirements
● Strong desire to help prevent suicide in Juneau.
● Bachelors degree in social work, public health, or similar field required.
● Current Alaska drivers license and auto insurance.
● Clearance of state and federal background checks.
● Ability to work occasional evenings and weekends.
