Residential Support Specialist Job Description

The role of the Residential Support Specialist is dual: to work closely with JAMHI Clinical Case Managers in making sure residential services are delivered, and to conduct limited property management functions. Residential Support Specialists are responsible for providing services to residents in the general milieu. Residential Support Specialist will maintain program structure through direct contact and informal counseling with residents, crisis intervention, enforcement of rules, and monitoring of the facility, will operate the reception desk 24 hours per day, and will assist with other duties. Residential Support Specialist will facilitate therapeutic activities and engage with tenants through these activities. This position is supervised by Program Director.

I. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Assist tenants as needed

Oversee the front door

Monitor cameras

Log notes

Maintain client files

Provide tenant transportation

Oversee tenant service plans

Assist with meal preparation and clean up

Perform tenant wellness checks

Builds rapport and engages positively with residents on an on-going basis in order to promote a communal environment and reinforce positive behavioral changes.

Answer phones and respond to community and neighborhood complaints as needed

Ensure facility safety

Work to create and maintain cohesive community

Assist with garden activities

Oversee visiting hours

Respond to emergencies

Assist with clean up as needed

Interact with tenants in a therapeutic and positive manner

Oversee wellness and other activities

Other tasks as assigned by facility director

II. QUALIFICATIONS

Profound respect and compassion for all people

Understanding and appreciation of the housing first philosophy

Strong boundaries and compassion

Experience working with vulnerable populations

Understanding of substance abuse and mental illness

Ability to work independently and with others

Valid Driver’s License

Proficiency in Microsoft Office Programs and other software

Paperwork processing skills

Computer skills

Strong problem solving skills

Degree not required but preferred. BLA, BS, BA required or experience homelessness and individuals

experiencing tough circumstances

Flexibility

Ability to multi-task

Ability to help clean up bodily fluids and other cleaning tasks throughout the building
