Position title: NAMI Juneau Program Coordinator

Status: Full-time, Non-Exempt

NAMI Juneau is the local affiliate of the nation’s largest grassroots mental health organization, the National Alliance on Mental Illness. NAMI Juneau’s mission is to provide education, support, advocacy, and public awareness to help individuals affected by mental health conditions build better lives. The Program Coordinator oversees and coordinates a variety of mental health education and support programs for individuals affected by mental health condition and supports the organization’s public awareness initiatives. The Program Coordinator reports to the NAMI Juneau Executive Director and works closely with staff and volunteers.

Position Responsibilities:

The NAMI Juneau program coordinator will be responsible for organizing and marketing NAMI support groups, trainings and classes while also implementing new outreach activities to promote mental wellness in Juneau.

Program Coordination

Using input from colleagues, volunteers and community partners, develop new programs to promote mental health in Juneau.

Serves as the primary staff contact for NAMI Juneau’s peer education and support programs.

Oversees the planning, scheduling, and marketing of NAMI Juneau’s programs including management of logistics and materials and coordination of volunteers.

Coordinates monthly speaker series which includes planning monthly forums, securing speakers, management of logistics, marketing, and materials, and ongoing evaluation of the program.

Responds to participant inquiries for help navigating resources and community services.

Volunteer Coordination

Supports volunteer leadership teams for each program area by maintaining appropriate communications, providing networking and training opportunities, and acknowledging volunteer contributions.

Coordinates facilitator trainings which includes recruiting and screening applicants and planning all logistics for training events.

Outreach Activities and Marketing

Assists with NAMI Juneau events, including Comedy for a Cause and the Extra Tough Mental Health Run, and other special events as needed.

Supports planning efforts and coordination of Mental Health Month and Mental Illness Awareness Week activities which may include workshops, art/film events, or other public awareness initiatives.

Helps strengthen partnerships with behavioral health and medical providers by providing them with timely program information and responding to requests for information.

Develops print and electronic communications related to all program areas.

Prepares content for social media and monthly newsletters including mental illness recovery stories, current information related to mental health conditions, and local and statewide services and supports.

Administrative and Other Duties

Updates and maintains program coordinator work plan and marketing guide.

Updates and maintains records for program leaders and participants.

Manages programmatic data collection and reporting to funders.

Other duties and special projects as assigned.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Experience working in the behavioral health field and/or a deep commitment to working with and on behalf of those who live with mental health conditions and their loved ones.

Ability to work both as a team member and independently.

Strong interpersonal and written communication skills, particularly in marketing programs.

Ability to maintain strict confidentiality with sensitive information including member, participant and volunteer information.

Action-oriented, organized, and ready to take initiative on new and existing projects.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, cloud computing, and social media platforms.

Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field.

Requirements:

Current Alaska driver’s license and auto insurance

Clearance of state and federal background checks

Willingness to work occasional evenings and weekends

The Program Coordinator position is grant funded through June 30, 2021.
