Summary Position Statement:

The Live-In Caregiver is a unique position that combines a role as a natural support and direct care provider into one. This position provides people with the opportunity to get paid while working from home and from the community by helping people who experience disabilities live the most independent lives possible. One of the other benefits of becoming a Live-In Caregiver is being able to live rent free. The Live-In Caregiver manages the day to day operations in the private home of a recipient who experiences developmental and/or intellectual receiving habilitative services through the Medicaid Waiver.

Specific Recipient Needs

This recipient is in his mid 50s and resides in his own home in Juneau. Some of the activities he enjoys participating in includes but are not limited to nature walks, fishing, feeding the ducks at Rotary Park, playing board games, cooking shows and naps. He has a very active imagination and great sense of humor.

Routine is key to keeping him on track with his day to day tasks. He is able to be physically independent but relies on caregivers to reassure and prompt him in order to successfully complete most daily living tasks.

Job Duties

Providing Person First Habilitative Services as outlined in the recipients plan of care

Assisting recipient with various needs such as daily living skills, money management, medication management ect.

Maintaining household sanitation, promoting community integration, assisting with medication administration etc.

Promoting a positive work environment

Building positive relationships with recipients, co-workers, team members, and community partners

Providing accurate daily documentation for Medicaid billing

Daily tracking regarding recipients health and safety

Complete trainings as assigned

Represent TIDES LLC in a positive and professional manner

Be a strong advocate for recipients

Assess and report recipients needs within the scope of daily work

Be t he primary point of day to day communication with recipients and family

Make sure additional documentation such as GERs, Behavioral ISPs, Seizure logs, BM logs, etc are completed as necessary.

Maintain strong solution-oriented communication with all involved

Be self-directed in fulfilling job requirements and identifying and completed ongoing education units each year

Raise the bar for yourself and others around you

Disseminate information to the appropriate team members

Education and Experience Requirements: Direct Care Specialists for TIDES LLC must meet the requirements, or have the ability to develop the skills needed before providing services in the following areas: Residential Habilitation, Day Habilitation, Supported Living, Supported Employment, and Respite.

A. Direct Care Specialists must be at least 18 years of age (unless driving); qualified through education or experience; and possess, or develop before providing services, the skills necessary to meet the needs of the recipient population.

B. Required education and alternatives to formal education:

a. High school or general education development (GED) diploma; or

b. Demonstration to the program Administrator of the ability to read written instructions and to complete appropriate documentation.

C. Required Skill Set

. The ability to communicate with supervisor and the recipient;

a. The ability to understand the needs of, and to work with the recipient;

b. The ability to be guided by the recipients Plan of Care;

c. The ability to handle household and emergency needs.

d. Job development and job matching

Licensure and Documentation: CPR and First Aid certificates required within 30 days of hire. TB, fingerprint and background check clearance required. Must be at least 21 years of age if driving is expected, 18 years of age if driving is not expected. Driving is a requirement of most positions and applicant must possess a current Alaska Drivers License, have been a licensed driver for at least three years, and provide Agency with proof of current Auto Insurance Coverage and an acceptable State Motor Vehicle Full History Drivers Report, prior to employment.

Training Requirements: Attend all trainings necessary to comply with TIDES LLC requirements. Maintain CPR and First Aid certification

Working Conditions: Work is performed primarily in the private home of the recipient while time is also spent in the community.
