PURPOSE

Assist the Administrator in all facets of Child Care Center activities. Incumbent will assist with carrying out lesson plans, incorporating component plans, and leading groups of children.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS

Reports To: Administrator

Supervises: Up to two FT employees and/or volunteers

Liaison To: N/A

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Develop and maintain a positive relationship with the children, families, staff, and volunteers

Manage small groups of children

Evaluate activities regarding appropriateness, effectiveness and interest to the children

Assist in preparation of materials, as needed, to carry out the weekly lesson plans

Eat and interact with children at meal times, serving as an appropriate role model to the children

Attend staff meetings as requested

Assist with contacting referrals, scheduling evaluations, and gathering intake information, adhering to program timelines

Accurately enter data into database systems

Assist in maintaining an inventory of forms and supplies

Compile and archive child charts

Provide clerical support to classroom staff

Help prepare agenda, attend meetings, and take notes

Participate in staff development and education

Prepare and submit all required paperwork in a timely manner

Provide support in all areas of the classroom maintaining a clean, safe, and cheerful environment

May assist conducting developmental screenings, observations of children's behavior, and in developing Individual Learning Plans (ILPs)

May attend parent committee meetings as requested

Safeguard privacy of records and confidential information

Assist in recruiting, enrolling eligible children and collecting needed records

Assist with janitorial duties and communicate with staff to determine janitorial priorities

Assist in keeping the building and playground area in safe condition and good repair at all times

Observe and ensure fire and sanitation code requirements

Perform other duties as assigned

NECESSARY SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE

Knowledge of applicable state and federal laws and requirements

Knowledge of program rules and requirements

Knowledge of modern office procedures

Familiarity with word processing, spreadsheets, and database software

Ability to work effectively with executives, managers, supervisors, employees, and employee representatives

Maintain strict confidentiality

Communicate effectively verbally and in writing

Project management and conflict resolution skills

Familiarity with Alaska Native cultures, particularly Tlingit, Haida, and Tsimshian

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (education, experience, skills)

High School Diploma or equivalent

Two year experience working with young children in a group setting

Child Development Associate Certificate

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS (education, experience, skills)

Associate degree in Early Childhood Education

Current First Aid/CPR Certificate

UNUSUAL PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS OR RESTRICTIONS

The majority of work is performed in a professional office setting and is generally sedentary, requiring routine walking, standing, bending, and carrying of items weighing less than 40 lbs. Travel on small aircraft or ferry may be required.
