Position Title: Tribal Peace Officer

Department: Justice Department

Reports to: Justice Director

Position Summary:

Tribal Peace Officers (TPO's) are dedicated, concerned citizens who assist their community in all aspects of public safety including but not limited to: search & rescue, emergency medical assistance, law enforcement, and crime prevention. These services are provided within the Chickaloon Village Traditional Council (CVTC) service area under the recommendation of the CVTC and the Justice Director. As appropriate, TPO’s will enforce State and Federal laws and Tribal ordinances and assist other State and Federal agencies. Applicants must have valid (less than 2 years since obtained or last employed as a sworn Officer) Alaska POST certification and have worked in a sworn (law enforcement) capacity on patrol for at least 1 year. This is a full-time 40 hours per week position with benefits, a family-friendly work environment, flexible hours, and available training.

Qualifications:

Experience: 12 months of police patrol experience and POST certification that is valid within the past 2 years.

Education: High school diploma or GED.

According to the 13 AAC 85.010 Basic Standards for police officers: The successful applicant must be at least 21 years old. They have never been convicted of a felony or a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence. They have not been convicted during the 10 years immediately before the date of hire as a police officer, of a crime of dishonesty or crime of moral turpitude, of a crime that resulted in serious physical injury to another person, or of two or more DWI offenses. They also, have never illegally manufactured, transported, or sold a controlled substance, unless the person was under the age of 21 at the time of the act and the act occurred more than 10 years before the date of hire; nor have they illegally used a controlled substance other than marijuana, unless the person was under the age of 21 at the time of using the controlled substance; and has not been denied certification, has had their basic certification revoked or has surrendered their basic certificate in this state or another jurisdiction, unless the denial or revocation has been rescinded by the responsible licensing agency of the issuing jurisdiction or by the council under 13 AAC 85.110.

AN/AI PREFERENCE: As allowed in P.L. 93-638, preference for employment will be given to Alaska Natives and American Indian Peoples. CVTC also has a local hiring preference.

Chickaloon Village is a Drug Free Workplace. New hires for this position are subject to pre-hire drug/alcohol testing and subject to random drug/alcohol testing in compliance with Federal drug/alcohol testing laws. This position will also be subject to a State & Federal background check, psychological test, and physical requirements.
