Animal Control Officers are responsible for capturing and impounding dangerous or stray animals, investigating cases of animal cruelty, enforcing licensing laws, providing expert testimony in court cases, rescuing trapped animals, preparing incident reports, and providing humane care to animals under their supervision. Animal Control Officers work under limited supervision from the Enforcement Supervisor, and response to requests for animal control service is accordance with Anchorage Municipal Code Title 17.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Minimum six months code, law enforcement, or security experience to include carrying out law(s) through investigations, interviewing witnesses, collecting evidence, writing citations and reports
- Current Alaska driver’s license with clean driving record
- Able to proficiently speak, read, understand and write English

WORKING ENVIRONMENT
The employee will be required to work in a variety of environments including, but not limited to:
Indoor/office: customer service and kennel area (noisy, odorous environment)
Outdoor: subject to adverse weather conditions
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The employee’s work requires routine walking, standing, bending and carrying items. Maintain a degree of physical capability and agility which may involve quickly entering and exiting vehicles; running, lifting, carrying and dragging heavy objects; climbing over and pulling oneself over obstacles; jumping down from elevated surfaces; climbing through openings, jumping over obstacles; crawling in confined areas; balancing on uneven or narrow surfaces; walking or standing for long periods; and operation of a motor vehicle. Employee must be able to lift 50 pounds.
