Position at Bishop’s Attic - Retail Store Manager
Who We Are: The Bishop’s Attic is a non-profit thrift store, founded in Anchorage, Alaska in 1971. Profits from the sale of merchandise are donated to the Archdiocese of Anchorage to be used for good works throughout Anchorage. The Attic offers a wide variety of merchandise, including clothing, home furnishings, hardware, and household goods.
Job Summary: The Bishop’s Attic is recruiting for a Store Manager. The Manager will:
Plan, supervise, monitor, and evaluate the day-to-day operations of the store
Plans, supervises, and monitors work of assistant managers and all other store personnel, ensuring compliance with established policies and procedures as well as budget constraints
Plans, supervises, and evaluates the layout and display of the store merchandise to generate maximum financial return
Oversees the volunteer program
Supervises processing of merchandise in the warehouse to ensure that items reach store floors in a timely manner
Plans and supervises the rotation and re-arranging of stock
Reports to the Board of Directors of the Bishop’s Attic
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge of the principles and practices of retail store management
Knowledge of the principles and practices of effective customer relations
Knowledge of the principles and practices of personnel supervision
Ability to supervise, lead and motivate subordinate employees
Ability to evaluate overall store operations to detect deficiencies and implement appropriate corrective action
Ability to price donated merchandise reasonable and fairly
Ability to develop new procedures to enhance store and warehouse operations
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
Education and Experience
Required – High school diploma or GED AND 2 year’s experience in a retail environment AND 1-year experience supervising employees
Preferred – Associate’s degree (A.A.) or equivalent from a two year-college or technical school and retain management experience and/or training
Physical Requirements
Ability to meet attendance requirements
Ability to read, write and communicate the English language
Ability to perform frequent walking and/or standing, kneeling, or squatting
Ability to pass a background check
Ability to lift 40 pounds
