Seeking Part Time Certified Medical Assistant to work weekend evening shifts from 3:00pm-11:00pm. Applicant must have 2-3 years working experience performing duties as outlined in this job posting as a Certified Medical Assistant (CMA.) The CMA is responsible for assisting in the provision of patient care under the supervision of a physician or physician assistant.

JOB DUTIES:

Prepares patients for provider encounter. Taking vital signs as indicated, recording chief complaint, allergies, current medications, past medical and surgical history and social history. Prepares appropriate instruments for examination/procedure.

Keeps patients informed, in a professional manner, of any wait times, lab results, and change in status. Maintains confidentiality while communicating with those other than the patient. Documents all interactions with patient.

Administer injections (such as toradol, rocephin, zofran, etc), immunizations, EKG, vision screening, dressing changes, ear lavage and may give medications under the direct supervision of the provider on shift. Will be asked to perform X-rays, phlebotomy and laboratory tests, including but not limited to Influenza, COVID-19, HCG, strep screens, CBC, CMP and UA dips.

Assists providers with procedures such as minor surgical procedures, orthopedic casting/splinting, pelvic exams, biopsy and suturing. Supports duties such as stocking and cleaning exam rooms, cleaning, wrapping and autoclaving instruments, filing records and helping to maintain medication cupboards. Performs patient follow-up as directed by the provider. Scheduling of referral appointments, MRI, CT studies, responding to patient messages and assisting with routine 48 hour patient callbacks. Notifies provider of any changes in patient status of for all emergent and urgent triage status patients.

Maintains BLS certification. Submits all renewed certifications prior to expiration date of previous certifications on file. Performs other related duties as assigned. Practices within scope of practice for a Certified Medical Assistant in the State of Alaska.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education: Graduate of an accredited Medical Assisting Program with certification.

Experience: 2-3 years working experience performing duties outlined in this job posting in acute care, urgent care, or ED preferred

Other Qualifications:

Working knowledge of the principles of medical assisting. Knowledge of commonly used medications brand/generic and their effects. Knowledge of medical terminology and equipment. Ability to think and act quickly in emergencies. Ability to interpret and apply medical orders. Ability to work with electronic health records. Ability to work with a wide range of patients of varied socioeconomic and ethnic backgrounds. Desire to work as a team member towards a common goal of delivering quality health care. Must be organized and self motivated. Must work well under pressure and be able to multi-task.
