Description:Providence is calling a Medical Technologist (Laboratory, Night Shift, 1.0 FTE) to Providence Alaska Medical Center in Anchorage, Alaska. Performs CLIA moderate and highly-complex technical laboratory procedures according to PAMC, lab, and national standards. Works accurately and productively employing situational awareness to adapt to workload. Plans, performs and evaluates routine and complex laboratory tests on patient specimens and maintains stewardship of laboratory resources.

Responsible for completing records and reports pertinent to testing phase and patient results in a timely and accurate manner. Responsible for review and acceptance of other statistical information for master files or database related to quality control and assurance.

Uses positive interpersonal skills to educate/support lab customers and promote success of team members. Uses clear and concise verbal and written communication to communicate with staff and the public. Acts as a trainer for new employees and MLS and/or MLT interns as designated by supervisor.

Participates in QC/QI for area of specialty and lab indicators. Identifies and takes corrective action to address problems that may adversely affect test performance or reporting of results when equipment malfunctions or when testing deficiencies are noted. Contributes to PAMC success targets for patient satisfaction and patient safety. Performs and assesses results of new test and/or equipment validations to ensure satisfactory test performance prior to implementation.

Demonstrates working knowledge of appropriate safety protocols. Complies with lab and Medical Center safety procedures. Practices Body Substance Isolation. Completes and complies with all mandatory regulatory and compliance education. Completes education necessary to maintain licensure or certification required for job.

Identifies real or potential situations or equipment failure, investigates and attempts to resolve within area of specialty or knowledge. Serves as a key operator for an analyzer or test system, demonstrating in-depth knowledge of the analyzer, assisting team members as needed to ensure accuracy and efficiency of the equipment and/or test system.

Completes initial, 6-month and annual Competency Plan for assigned job and department.

Qualifications:Required qualifications for this position include:

Bachelors Degree in Medical Technology required if MT or CLS certification eligible; equivalent training in lieu of a degree may be accepted but must be verified by the Laboratory Department and identified to Human Resources prior to the candidate’s interview.

Individuals qualifying for this position with a Bachelor’s Degree must complete certification as either a Medical Technologist (MT) from the American Society of Clinical Pathology (ASCP), Clinical Lab Scientist (CLS) from the National Credentialing Agency (NCA) or Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS)(ASCP) within one year of hire; individuals qualifying for this position with equivalent certification must be verified by the Lab department and identified to Human Resources prior to the candidate’s interview.

Ability to use microscopes in hematology and microbiology.
