JOB SUMMARY: Manages supervision of the Moseley Sports Center, Risk Management, health and wellness program, vehicle fleet maintenance, driver training, recreation and outdoor programs, and emergency preparedness.

REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES

Acts as primary supervisor of the Moseley Sports Center, to include all staff employed at the center, budgets, maintenance of water quality in the pool, supervises risk management of the center, weight room, and climbing wall

Sets policies, programing and procedures, and provides health and wellness opportunities for the university.

Supervises the Outdoor Program department, working with the OP Director and Assistant Director to offer outdoor trips and classes, equipment rental.

Overall supervision and maintenance of the university’s' fleet of vans and trucks to include driver training is also encompassing of the Director's job. The Director also is responsible for snow machine training, operation and maintenance for the trail grooming equipment and supervises the Chugach Base Camp summer camping area for students.

Helps oversee the water quality and daily maintenance of the pool in conjunction with the Assistant Director.

Assists in supervising Student Water Quality Technicians.

Provides scheduling or assists staff with training of student workers and other staff members.

Supervises student worker positions as the primary or secondary supervisor.

Files all necessary paperwork with career services and/or payroll, as well as monitors and approves employee timesheets.

Serves as primary budget officer for the Recreation Program department and the sports center and secondary budget officer for the Outdoor Program department.

Serves on both the Off-Campus Risk Management Committee and the On-Campus Risk Management Committee providing risk management evaluations and emergency response training to the university. Risk Management policy and procedure supervisor for Recreation Programs, Moseley Sports Center and the APU Outdoor Program Department.

Oversees and is responsible for producing facility usage contracts for groups outside the university.

Directs supervision of full time staff and Moseley Sports Center front desk staff.

Provides First Aid and CPR training for the APU community.

Assists in programming and facilitating campus wellness events.

Oversees and maintains the APU X/C ski trail systems to include operation of snow machines and maintenance of grooming equipment.

Campus Safety Duties as assigned, related to the undeveloped lands of the APU campus, and the unauthorized use of those specific areas.

KNOWLEDGE and SKILLS

Knowledge of ski trail grooming, snow machine operation, chain saw operation and maintaining of same equipment.

Skill in setting and maintaining budgets.

Skill in training Risk Management related responsibilities.

Skill in swimming proficiency.

Skill in effectively communicating with both internal and external customers.

Skill in teaching or coaching swimming.

Skill in outdoor instruction.

Skill in showing initiative.

Skill in creatively overcoming obstacles inherent to programming.

Skill in acting as a team player.

Skill in leading and managing a varied workforce.

Skill in working with Microsoft Office Suite.

MINIMUM EDUCATION QUALIFICATION

Bachelor’s Degree in Recreation, Outdoor Studies, or related field.

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATION

Non-Supervisory: Two (2) years’ experience coordinating and/or administering recreation programs.

AND

Supervisory: Two (2) years’ experience in recreation program leadership.

MINIMUM CERTIFICATION QUALIFICATION

Certified Pool Operators License

CPR and First Aide certification

American Red Cross Lifeguard certification (or ability to obtain within a specified period of time from hire date)

PREFERRED CERTIFICATION QUALIFICATION

American Red Cross Instructor, Wilderness First Responder (WMA or WMI), EMT, Water Safety Instructor, Water Safety Instructor Trainer, USA Swimming, Total Immersion preferred.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

Current and valid driver’s license required. Ability to pass a driving history check and driving test.
