General Purpose

The General Manager (GM) conducts the day-to-day business of the corporation subject to the supervision and control of the respective Board of Directors (BOD). Togiak Natives Limited (TNL) is a growing village corporation exploring development of multiple new business lines. TNL has operations in a fuel tank farm and fuel distribution, commercial leasing, land management, school bus operations, and government contracting. This position will initially manage the operations for all business lines except government contracting, which is its own standalone business line. Eventually, the GM will also take on the business management of TNL.

The General Manager is preferred to live in Togiak or be able to commute at least part time. Candidates in other Bristol Bay communities or the Anchorage area are also encouraged to apply. This will be a part-time position initially but may grow to full time. Contractors and those desiring to work as contract employees are encouraged to apply as well as those wishing to work a an employee.

This individual must have the skills to work well with diverse groups of people in varying fields, skill levels, and professions. The general manager must be able to establish and maintain professional relationships with all subcontractors and clients. The general manager must also possess a professional persona demonstrating diplomacy, tact and respect for all individuals.

Major Responsibilities

Initially:

Conducting the corporation’s business; maintaining and protecting its property, assets and records; enforcing contracts and agreements; carrying out the BOD’s directives and policies.

Facility management of TNL’s properties, which includes managing and maintaining the cleanliness of buildings and grounds, developing and executing a repair and renovation schedule, and coordinating fire drills and safety inspections.

Management of TNL’s existing Fuel Operations business, including coordination of annual maintenance of equipment, tank farm compliance, and inventory management.

Management of School Bus operations, ensuring safety of students by ensuring compliance with safety, maintenance, and state and federal requirements.

Land management.

Commercial lease negotiation and management.

Residential apartment rental management.

Supervision of employees, including fuel operations staff, school bus drivers, the land manager and maintenance staff.

Negotiating with outside vendors for supplies, repairs, and renovations.

Researching, developing, and growing new profitable business lines as directed by the BOD strategic plan.

Ensuring the efficiency of business operations by looking for ways to cut costs and develop and utilize current technologies.

Compliance with all TNL policies and industry best practices.

Managing and developing staff.

Ensuring adherence to legal rules and guidelines.

Preparing reports for the BOD when requested.

Performing other such duties as the BOD assigns.

At a Later Time:

All TNL business functions, except for government contracting.

Overseeing the Office Manager to:

Ensure TNL is compliant with all federal, state, and local requirements as well as maintaining best practices around policy compliance, insurance levels, payment of taxes, HR, IT, and all other business functions.

Develop annual budgets and long-range plans for approval by the BOD.

Monitor accounting and financial reporting.

Maintain day-to-day operations of TNL.

Arrange and attend all shareholder, BOD, and committee meetings and maintain the minutes thereof; and represent TNL in events, conferences, and other events as requested by the BOD,

Maintain shareholder lists and corporate websites.

Minimum Education/Experience

High school diploma.

Experience in a business environment.

Required Knowledge or Skills

Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills as well as analytical skills.

Excellent computer and other business technology skills.

Ability to be reached at any time in case of emergency.

Unless living in Togiak, the GM will need an adequate home or other dedicated work environment with high speed internet.

Knowledge of Microsoft Outlook or other email platform, Microsoft Word or other word processing software & preferred knowledge of Microsoft Excel or other spreadsheet software.

Ability to multitask and problem solve.

Must reside in region (Bristol Bay or Anchorage area) and work at TNL’s office and other office locations as needed. There may be a particular need to work in Togiak as needed in the summer months. There will be requirements to quarantine and/or test for COVID-19 prior to going to the village while the pandemic is a threat.

Ability to occasionally travel elsewhere in Alaska and the Lower 48.

Preferred Knowledge or Skills

Five (5) years of management experience.

Experience reporting to corporate boards of directors, and on business operations and investments.

Experience with diverse business processes, financial statements, and strategy development, including budgets and long-range plans.

Higher-level education—associate or bachelor’s degree in business management or other relevant degree.

Preferred expertise in fuel operations, land management, construction, tourism, and/or school bus operations.

Physical Demands

Sedentary to light physical workload.

Employee must be able to exert up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to a negligible amount of force constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body.

Required to have close visual acuity to perform activities such as viewing a computer terminal and extensive reading.

Specific physical requirements include, but are not limited to, walking, lifting, grasping, talking, hearing, and performing repetitive motions.

TNL has fuel operations that this position will be required to manage and operate. You will be required to wear all safety equipment to ensure no adverse concerns can occur if full safety requirements are not met.
