Individual may be asked to work weekends and/or evenings on occasion.Job Summary: The Registered Nurse (RN) provides professional nursing care to patients. The RN reviews physicians' orders for accuracy and authorization prior to implementing them; prescribes and initiates nursing treatment through direct, assisted or delegation to other staff.Additional Department Summary: This position is responsible for the processing of COVID-19 sentinel testing samples from the individuals selected to participate in the disease surveillance and monitoring program of The University of Alabama campus population and other activities associated with the sentinel testing and disease surveillance team. The individual in this role should facilitate quality patient care for sentinel testing and will be responsible for testing utilizing the Mobile Outreach Unit and in traditional clinical/lab space at the UA CV19 Support Program Headquarters. This position may also be responsible for “Wellness Checks” at the Program Headquarters and with testing individuals at other times as directed by the Disease Surveillance and Monitoring Lead RN. Additionally, this position will provide professional nursing care to patients. Continuation of this position will be contingent on funding and length of need of the program.Required Minimum Qualifications: State of Alabama valid/current Registered Nurse License.Additional Required Department Minimum Qualifications: State of Alabama valid/current Registered Nurse License in good standing. Must have a current CPR certification and have used an electronic health record system in a previous learning or employed role.Skills and Knowledge: Ability to perform disease surveillance testing care as directed by a physician, nurse practitioner or other qualified medical professional. Efficient and accurate computer and data entry skills. Excellent communication, public relations and customer service and telephone etiquette skills. Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced work environment. Desire to exemplify the core values and mission of the organization, always exercising utmost discretion, diplomacy and tact in patient/staff interactions. Willingness to learn and consistently deliver patient centered high quality customer friendly service. Understanding of the need for strict confidentially of protected health information and the requirement to follow HIPAA regulations at all times. Punctual and reliable, understanding that case care is paramount, and extended work hours are needed during busier times.
