214271 - MECHANICAL ENGINEERINGPosition Summary:The Department of Mechanical Engineering at The University of Alabama (http://me.eng.ua.edu) invites qualified candidates for two non-tenure/non-tenure track renewable contract Research Assistant Professor positions. Both positions require Ph.D. degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering field, and background and experience in combustion with focus on internal combustion engines (ICEs): (1) the first position requires experimental background in combustion experiments at high-pressures including skills to perform engine dynamometer tests. Knowledge of thermal-fluid instrumentation, emissions measurements, data acquisition systems, engine control units, and ability to program hardware and analyze experimental data is necessary. Familiarity with optical diagnostics techniques for flow and species measurements is desirable, and (2) the second position requires computational experience and background to perform high-performance, multi-dimensional CFD analysis of ICEs. An ideal candidate will have extensive knowledge of commercial codes such as CONVERGE CFD and ANSYS FLUENT, and/or open-source code OPEN FOAM.
