Sorting mail, answering phones, taking messages and following up with customers. Also organize meetings, creating and managing records.

Office duties, such as filing, copying, scanning, and ordering supplies are also preformed.

Position requires independent judgment and keen decision-making skills.

Job Requirements

Due to the high degree of interaction with the public, administrative assistants are expected to have excellent interpersonal communication skills, both written and verbal. They need to be team players, satisfied when the group is recognized, even at the expense of the individual members. Deadlines are important to this position, so administrative assistants need to be good at prioritizing tasks to make sure that multiple deadlines are met.

The need for a working knowledge of current office practices and software, specifically Microsoft Word and Excel, generally translates to a requirement of two years of experience. The minimum education requirement is a high school diploma or the equivalent.
