The Ground-based Midcourse Defense (GMD) program in Huntsville has an immediate need for a Lead Technical Project Engineer to support a new Missile Field Design and Launch Silo ComponentsDesign, for new and existing work, directed by the Missile Defense Agency. This position is based in Huntsville, AL, one of the country’s fastest growing technical cities.The GMD System is the first and only operationally deployed missile defense program to defend the homeland against long-range ballistic missile attacks. The system provides early detection and tracking during the boost phase, midcourse target discrimination, precision intercept and destruction of inbound ICBMs through force of hit-to-kill technology. As prime contractor, Boeing is designing, producing, integrating, testing and sustaining all GMD components.Position Responsibilities:Develop and document electronic and electrical system requirements for the GMD Launch Site ComponentsAnalyze and translate requirements into system architecture, hardware and software designs and interface specifications.Test and validate to ensure system designs meet operational and functional requirements.Work Authorization:This position requires the ability to obtain a U.S Security Clearance for which the US Government requires US Citizenship.An interim U.S. Secret Clearance Pre-Start and final U.S. Secret Clearance Post-Start is required.Basic Qualifications (Required Skills / Experience):Bachelor's, Master's or Doctorate of Science degree in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry14 or more years of experience in an engineering role (or Master's +12 / PhD +9)5 + years of experience with electrical / electronic systems5 or more years of experience leading engineering projectsExperiencedesigning,developing, testing and evaluating hardware used in Military / Defense / Aerospace applicationsPreferred Qualifications (Desired Skills / Experience):Active / Current Secret U.S. Security ClearanceExperience with embedded softwareExperience working on Missile Defense programs with avionics hardware and software is desirable.Experience mentoring less experienced engineersMust have demonstrated a strong work ethic and sense of urgency for completing assigned work with a history of meeting commitmentsMust possess good organizational, interpersonal, and problem solving skillsAbility to adjust priorities to multiple demands and unanticipated events Highly motivated and must work well in a team environmentThe ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writingTypical Education / Experience:Typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 14 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD+9 years' related work experience, Master+12 years' related work experience).
