The Nursing Aide COVID-19 ( NA-C19 ) is a member of the center nursing team whose responsibility is to assist professional nursing personnel by delivering on a state-specific limited basis nursing care to ambulatory and non ambulatory residents on a daily basis.

The NA-C19 is also responsible for assisting the residents to achieve the highest level of functioning while living as normal a lifestyle as possible.

Time will be spent observing the Certified Nursing Assistants and working alongside our nursing team to obtain the necessary skills needed to meet job requirements.

If applicable, upon successful completion of the state administered certification exam, the team member will become a Certified Nursing Assistant at Diversicare and receive a wage increase equivalent to the starting wage as a CNA.

Responsibilities

To perform or assist the resident with completing Activities of Daily Living (ADL).

Specifically related to oral care / denture care; bed bath / perineal / catheter care; change incontinent brief; assist with dressing, hearing aids, and bathroom / urinal.

Assists with resident / patient care needs and comforts including but not limited to oral hygiene, bathing functions, dressing / undressing as necessary and room cleanliness

Responds to resident call lights to provide maximum comfort, safety and privacy.

Complete all assignments directed by the charge nurse.

Complete required documentation accurately and in a timely manner as requested by the charge nurse.

Provide safe bedside care and assistance delivered with integrity and compassion.

Transports residents by ambulation or by wheelchair to areas of center (dining room, lobby and activities).

Prepares resident for meals; transports dependent residents and escorts independent residents to dining room when necessary;

assists with transport of food cart to and from dietary department; checks tray with diet care before serving to resident;

sets tray up for residents; serves and collects food trays. May not feed residents requiring modified diets.

Delivers between meal nourishment and fresh drinking water to residents; encourages / assists residents in eating / drinking;

may not feed residents requiring modified diets. Reports / records percent of nourishment consumed and amount of fluid intake.

Delivers fresh ice water to water pitchers maintained at bedside for each resident (unless directed otherwise by the licensed staff for individual residents on fluid restriction).

Delivers water pitchers to dietary for sanitizing two times a week as assigned.

Changes, disinfects, and makes occupied or unoccupied beds, collects and bags soiled linen and placed soiled clothing in appropriate receptacle;

stores clean linen; places personal laundry in designated place according to facility policy; maintains orderliness of clean linen cart;

assists in keeping resident rooms neat and safe.

Converses with resident and family; assists them on adjustment to center; handles complaints effectively and develops relationships necessary for resident’s psychosocial needs to be met.

Respects the rights of each resident, particularly privacy and confidentiality; respects resident’s privacy by knocking and waiting for acknowledgment before entering residents’ rooms;

treats residents with dignity and addresses residents appropriately when speaking with them; promptly alerts nursing personnel when residents require direct care.

Follows established infection precautions, adheres to standard precautions, and contact or droplet precautions. Uses proper hand washing techniques per policy.

Observes safety needs of residents; identifies safety hazards and Reports any significant findings / observations to nurse immediately.

Responsible for the safekeeping of residents’ personal possessions.

Follows safe working practices and reports any incidents promptly to Charge Nurse.

Attends and participates in scheduled in-service program and staff meetings.

Maintains confidentiality of necessary information, to include all protected health information.

Performs other work assignments as may be required and as assigned by supervisor.

Qualifications

Willingness to learn and a passion for caring for residents and patients at their point of need

Prior experience working in a skilled nursing or long-term care center is a plus

Able to communicate positively, effectively, and appropriately with residents / patients, families, community members, volunteers and Diversicare team members

Possess special interest in, and a positive attitude about, working with long-term care residents / patients and the elderly

Able to read, write, speak and understand English

Demonstrates basic computer knowledge and ability with an aptitude to learn company applications
