Global School Access is looking to hire a local representative to work with a high school student from China. The position starts immediately. Please see description below for responsibilities connected to the position. Please note this is for one student, but we may have more students in this region next school year. Bilingual Mandarin Chinese/English speaker preferred. Parents of the student do not speak English. You set your hours and communicate mostly through WeChat and visit the student once a month. Part-time, independent contractor.

Role of the Student Manager:

The Student Manager provides specialized student support to international students and serves as a student advocate. Student Managers advise students on personal, social, and cultural matters during their course of study in the U.S. or other partner countries.

GSA Student Manager Responsibilities :

Serve as a liaison between the students, school/s, and GSA

Communicate with students, parents, and GSA prior to student arrival to get acquainted with all parties and offer support prior to student arrival

Communicate with host family and homestay manager as needed

Provide an orientation to students within first week of arrival (orientation details provided by GSA)

Communicate with schools as needed regarding students' academics or other related matters

Maintain regular contact with students throughout the school year

Visit students monthly at the host family home, boarding school, or agreed upon location for events or other activities

Provide monthly reports regarding students' progress and submit to GSA headquarters via email as well as to the natural parents via WeChat or email

Communicate as needed with GSA management regarding student welfare

Be available to students as needed should any issues or concerns arise

Be available to students if an emergency arises during the academic year (if host family or school is not available or additional support is needed)

Organize quarterly social and recreational gatherings for students (unless the school does this with their international students)

Monitor students' grades and communicate with school and GSA if students are not passing courses or need additional support

Make tutoring arrangements as needed in consultation with school and GSA

Communicate with students' parents regularly (generally done via email and WeChat)

Requirements:

Must be at least 25 years of age

Pass a background check

Reliable transportation at all times

Computer/media literacy and comfort using apps such as WeChat or LINE, or WhatsApp

Qualifications:

Commitment to the welfare of GSA international students

Sensitivity to cultural differences

Demonstrated experience in intercultural communication

Strong interpersonal and mediation skills

Proven experience working with adolescents and families

Ability to effectively communicate in oral and written form
