SAFETY SENSITIVE POSITION

Basic purpose of position: Perform the essential functions required to prepare the vehicles for unloading and/or securing the vehicles in the railcar for movement upon completion of loading. The process requires the use of an adjustable loading ramp, driving various types of vehicles onto or off of the railcars in a safe and quality manner meeting all requirements of our customer. Associates designated as a “Senior Vehicle Handlers” have mastered the skills required of a “Vehicle Handler” and are able to perform essentially error-free work without direct supervision.

Expectation: We expect all associates to be committed to a high standard of safety, be willing and able to comply with all safety policies/rules and willing to report safety violations and potential safety violations to appropriate supervisory personnel. Individuals performing this function must not pose a direct threat or significant risk of substantial harm to the safety or health of himself/herself or others. Job Performance without equipment damage is essential to meeting our customers’ safety, quality and production requirements.

Responsibilities: (Note: Responsibilities are site specific and determined by customer).

Comply with all industry, customer and company safety regulations and operating procedures;

Pre-inspection of vehicles on railcar including management notification of findings;

Inspect and assist in opening and closing railcar end doors;

Assist in raising and lowering hinged railcar decks;

Inspect, install and remove bridge plates;

Remove and properly store vehicle securement devices (unloading operation only);

Properly secure vehicle for railcar movement (loading operation only);

Drive manual and standard transmission motor vehicles, at all times, in accordance with company and customer instructions/procedures;

Drive vehicles to proper parking bay by assigned route for either railcar or truck shipment;

Conduct vehicle inventory;

May be required to operate and/or maintain various types of loading ramps;

Perform housekeeping duties as required by site management;

Must be able to work mandatory overtime hours when operating requirements or other business needs of our Client cannot be fulfilled during regular business hours;

Education Requirements: Eighth grade education or ability.

Experience Requirements: No prior experience needed to perform below the Senior Vehicle Handler position.

Skills, Licenses, Certification, and/or Special Training:

Must maintain a valid state driver’s license if required to operate company equipment;

Must be able to safely operate vehicles with either a standard and/or automatic transmission;

Meet and maintain all requirements contained in the Conditions of Employment policy.

Physical, Mental & Sensory Requirements:

Ability to constantly work in an outdoor environment, exposed to all weather elements, including extreme hot and cold temperatures, dust and noisy conditions;

Ability to occasionally work in areas with limited lighting;

Possess physical strength and agility to constantly open and close automobile doors throughout shift;

Ability to frequently open railcar doors using pulling back force of 90 lbs and pushing force of 68 lbs;

Ability to frequently climb, using various types of ladders, to heights in excess of 16 feet;

Ability to occasionally lift above shoulder height a weight of up to 50 pounds;

Ability to occasionally lift and carry up to 35 lbs;

Constantly required to use bending, squatting, twisting, and walking motions throughout the entire work shift;

Ability to constantly work in area with less than 60 inches of vertical clearance;

Ability to constantly enter/exit a vehicle with a vehicle door opening clearance of no more than 12 inches;

Must be able to hear and communicate, work or safety instructions spoken in

a normal voice;

Must have visual acuity and normal depth perception in both eyes to inspect and drive motor vehicles in limited lighting to include night/dusk and inside plant operations.

Must be able to work independently;

Must be able to properly wear all required Personal Protective Equipment.
