Locally owned HVAC and plumbing company in business for 70+ years and we are looking for someone driven to grow and develop professionally. We are seeking a hungry hard working person that wants to grow into a professional service technician. We require you to come on board as an installation helper and learn the proper techniques and code for a quality installation and then if the attitude and aptitude is right we move you into a service technician apprentice. This time frame is normally determined by your willingness to work hard and learn. We have had several employees that came on board and within 1 year they have been able to begin running maintenance calls and basic service calls.
Western offers many opportunities to learn and grow. We perform plumbing service, install water heaters, install gas piping, install and service hydronic radiant floor systems, install and service traditional central heating and cooling systems, and install and service geothermal equipment. As a member of our team you will be exposed to all of these and will be tasked to learn about all of them.
Required Qualifications:
Valid drivers license and clean driving record
Demonstrate willingness to invest in HVAC tools
Demonstrate willingness to invest time and effort in training classes and seminars
Work from 28' extension ladder and 12' step ladder
Ability to operate power and hand tools
Ability to follow written and verbal directions as given
Willing to obtain apprentice Alabama Gas Fitters Card within 90 days
Willing and able to take and pass test to obtain EPA universal card within 90 days
Demonstrate commitment to developing customer service skills
Demonstrate mechanical aptitude
Detail oriented and process driven
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
Arrive at job site at scheduled time and/ or locations as dispatched
Relocate from one job site to another job site as dispatched during the workday
Operate company vehicle as needed
Follow instructions from supervisor and/or dispatcher and carry out in timely manner
Report problems with company tools or vehicle promptly
Ability to work staggered schedule if required
Maintain professional appearance and attitude at all times
Develop a familiarity with all install and service related forms
Inform and educate customers about residential planned maintenance agreements
Inform and educate customers on additional products or services available through company
Inform customer of replacement options following company guidelines
Develop basic knowledge of electrical and refrigeration principles
Develop basic knowledge of service tools and testing devicesD
Develop soldering skills
Develop customer service skills.
Develop skills to perform filter changes utilizing filter checklist paperwork unassisted
Develop skills to perform planned maintenance on residential systems utilizing maintenance checklist with assistance of a senior tech
Keep vehicle clean and organized daily as well as office and shop area

After coming on board with us we provide many paid training opportunities through local supply houses, Alabama Power HVAC training center, and other outlets as well as in house training for gas code, service, and install. This is a great opportunity to learn how the business works from the inside out rather than paying to go to a trade school and then graduating with no field experience.
Must pass a background check, MVR search, and aptitude test. We will hire you in on a 90 day probation period after which you become a full time apprentice.
Pay is $9 - $14 hour depending on experience and then we will move your hourly rate up as you progress from a level 1 tech - level 5 tech plus opportunities for commission and profit sharing.
