BourgTech is a growing IT company based out of Auburn, AL. We currently looking to hire field technicians in several nearby cities as we expand our business. The technician awarded this position will start out as part-time, aiming for at least 20 hours per week. As work volume grows and the new tech proves to be reliable, this position will eventually become full-time, offering a guaranteed minimum number of hours or even graduation to salary. Technicians need to be capable of servicing computer systems, networks and telephone systems. Cabling work is often required. Field technicians start and end their work days from their homes and do not have to come into an office. Field assignments are dispatched directly to techs by email, by phone and by the use smartphone apps. The tech will travel directly to his or her assigned customers and then back to home at the conclusion of each day, unless traveling on a more extensive assignment. Assignments requiring nights away from home are not common but will be offered occasionally.

Job responsibilities include:

Reviewing assigned work orders/jobs and all supporting information before arriving at a customer's site, and submitting any questions or concerns to dispatch in a timely manner so they can be addressed before the tech arrives onsite.

Driving to customer sites, greeting customers professionally and explaining the work to be done in an understandable manner.

Completing the assigned scope of work such as installing, repairing and/or configuring computers, network equipment, telephone equipment and associated cabling.

Obtaining all requested pictures and other "deliverables" as well as completion of any paperwork associated with a job and obtaining customer signatures when needed. Submission of these requirements to dispatch before departing a site or as soon as possible if unable to do so from the site.

Remaining in-contact with dispatch(ers) regularly during the course of the job to update regarding progress and request approval of additional time or tasks as needed.

Receiving dispatches by email, phone and text and responding to all dispatch and other work-related communications in a timely manner.

Maintaining a professional appearance and level of personal hygiene.

Maintaining a high level of professionalism with regard to conversation and the manner in which the technician represents himself or herself to the customer.

Arriving on-time for all dispatches and ensuring any late arrivals or missed appointments are communicated to dispatch as soon as they are known.

Avoiding the use of tobacco products while onsite. Smoking, vaping and other visible uses of tobacco products is prohibited. Smelling like smoke when arriving onsite is unacceptable.

Required qualifications:

Two year degree in computer sciences or related field from college or vocational school

-OR-

Two years of experience servicing computers, networks, telephone systems and associated cabling.

One year of experience in a customer-facing service role, customer service training, or other demonstrable understanding of the how to deliver great customer service and why it's important.

Valid drivers license

Willing and able to pass a background check

Willing and able to pass a drug test if requested

Willingness and ability to work in a varied number of environments including residential, commercial, professional, retail and industrial settings.

Technician must be able to provide the following tools:

Laptop running Windows 7 or higher. Must also have working charger and USB-to-serial (DB9) adapter.

Wire cutter, crimper, stripper and punchdown tool for terminating structured cabling including CAT5E, CAT6 and telephone, and knowledge of how to use them. Tools for coaxial cable such as RG6 are helpful but not required. Fiber optic capability is a plus but not a requirement.

Toner, toning wand and tester for structured cabling. Tester must be able to produce a cable map and identify issues like crosswires and opens. Ability to measure cable distance is helpful. Testers for coax and fiber are not required but are a plus. Tech must be competent in the operation of each tool.

Basic hand tools (screwdrivers, wrenches, etc.) Flashlight is a must as well.

Cordless drill w/ charger. Hammer drill not required but preferred. Ability to drill into drywall, wood, brick and block is needed to hang network racks, monitors, televisions and telecom backboards (plywood). Most drilling will be light, such as fastening switches and routers in racks or attaching jacks and equipment to backboard/wall.

Cable pulling tools including pulling/fishing poles, fish tape, etc.

8' ladder. Collapsible ladder systems allowing transportation in smaller vehicles are perfectly acceptable provided they can safely reach a 12' ceiling (for running cable, installing wireless access points, etc).

Technician must have reliable transportation capable of safely transporting tech and all tools/equipment to every job. Technicians use their own vehicle to travel to customers in their service area. BourgTech reimburses its technicians for fuel. Technicians earn pay for travel to sites more than 50 miles from their home.
