Job Description
We are looking for an experienced landscape designer. This position involves meeting with clients, assessing their landscape needs and working to design within their budget. We have had designers present renderings using Pro-Landscape, some use sketch elevations, others use normal overhead design layouts to communicate ideas to clients. The goal is that clients have a good understanding of your ideas. I am more concerned with brilliant ideas than fancy drawings. Designers are also responsible for doing estimates, I will closely work with them on this until they have a good handle on creating a profitable proposal. When the job begins the designer meets with one of our foreman and directs them regarding how the landscape is to be implemented. As needed, they check in on the job to inspect work, see if additions/changes are needed, communicate that with the client and make sure it is noted in the final invoice. When the job is complete, as needed, they may do a walk through with the client.
Our jobs range in value from 2000.00 to 50,000.00. An average job is about 7000.00 and requires a three man crew about three days to complete. Our revenue is 1 million/year. All of our work is residential, most of it is renovation. The market appears to be increasing the budget for new construction so we are exploring this option. As a company, we are not satisfied with a straight row of bushes and tall corner shrub. One of our motto's is creating a living work of art in your yard. That is the goal, the reality of this market is that people do not always give us the budget for the next photo op on Better Homes & Gardens. Creativity, bringing art to the business of landscaping is a key attribute this person needs to have. Being sociable and enjoying the experience of working with the client is also important (you will unfortunately find that about 1/50 people are not so nice. So, we must smile and pretend like we are having a good time. The goal of this type of client is not money, it is just to leave with them being happy). The landscape style I would like to see implimented is less grass, more trees and preservation of nature. I would like to see the landscape become more than a pretty scene, it should be functional with edibles and wildlife supportive plants. Not all jobs will want this, but it is our underlying desire.
Company Culture - I view the landscape business like a football game. I expect intensity, I show up to win. I expect a designer to treat a client like a waiter would at a five star restaurant.
Work is a third of your life, I hope to make it enjoyable. This doesnt mean we compromise professionalism and the pursuit of perfection, but lets have a good time on the journey.
